COLUMBUS, Ohio – With the 2020-21 season underway the AAA Blue Jackets are taking the opportunity to shine a light on one of the area’s most influential pioneers. Beginning with games this past weekend, all Ohio AAA Blue Jackets players will be wearing a sticker on their helmet to pay tribute to the late Paul Donskov for the remainder of the season.

A dedicated worker with endless passion for the great game of hockey, Paul was an accomplished builder and was instrumental to the growth and development of youth hockey in central Ohio since moving his family to Columbus in 1990. Paul passed away on April 15, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer.

“Paul was a man of integrity and passion. He was a great teacher and had a tremendous impact on so many lives,” said AAA Blue Jackets President Ed Gingher. “He was an integral part of not just the growth of our program, but the entire region. Paul will forever be missed but will not be forgotten. We take our responsibility very seriously to carry on his legacy and continue to help our kids grow and reach their potential through playing our great game.”

To honor his commitment to the game, the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation created The Paul Donskov Legacy Scholarship. The scholarship will honor his legacy, lifetime work and the value he placed on education and will help youth hockey players advance and fulfill their academic and athletic dreams.

“On behalf of the Donskov family, we are honored and humbled that the Ohio AAA Blue Jackets players will be wearing a sticker on their helmets to pay tribute to Paul,” said Debbie Donskov.

“Paul was a visionary, builder, leader, and tireless advocate for the growth and development of the game in our city.  He had a burning passion to help youth hockey players advance and fulfill their academic and athletic dreams. He will always be remembered for his character, integrity, selflessness, dedication to family and passion for the game of hockey.”
