Six players earn junior hockey call-ups

2022 kicks off with 6 players earning promotions to the USHL and NAHL

As the calendar flipped to 2022, five current players and one recent alumnus earned junior hockey call-ups

On New Year's Eve, 2002 born goaltender Michael Sochan earned a promotion from the the Utica Comets (NCDC) and was added to the roster of the Tri-City Storm (USHL). Currently in his rookie season of junior hockey, Sochan has also spent time with the Sioux Falls Stampede and Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL. Last year, Sochan posted a 20-12-4 record, .922 save percentage and 2.01 GAA. He helped lead our 18U team to a Mid-AM district championship and quarterfinal berth at the USA Hockey National Championships.

Also this past weekend, current 18U forwards Ryan Gingher and Mason LeBel made their junior hockey debuts with the Janesville Jets (NAHL). Gingher (38 GP, 18-24-42) and LeBel (35GP, 15-19-34) are currently two of the top scorers on our 18U team. Both players are currently listed as affiliate players with the Jets, who also tendered 18U defensemen Ryan Williams earlier this season.

This week, 18U goaltender Liam Sebek and defenseman Jameson O'Flynn will also get their first taste of junior hockey. 

Sebek joins the Waterloo Blackhawks (USHL) for the week. The Minnesota native recently retuned to action and has appeared in 6 games after missing the beginning of the season returning from hip surgery. O'Flynn is currently with the Minnesota Wilderness (NAHL). In 30 games this season he has notched 4 goals, 21 assists and 25 points.

Lastly, 16U forward Braiden Clark will get his first experience with the Youngstown Phantoms (USHL) after acquiring him in a trade with the Omaha Lancers on December 1. The Providence College commit has recorded 9 goals and 25 points through 26 games this season. He made his USHL debut and tallied an assist with Omaha earlier this season.

The Ohio AAA Blue Jackets are proud to announce a partnership with Ice Hockey Systems. IHS is hockey's premier coaching resource with an extensive library of drills, systems & coaching videos. The site is developed to provide tools and content that educates, fosters creativity and helps coaches stay organized.

"We are thrilled to partner with IHS. This is a real value add for our organization as we continue to work towards our mission of developing our players to reach their potential both on and off the ice," said president Ed Gingher. "This improves the efficiency of our operation and will allow our coaches access to tremendous resources that will enhance our player development model."

IHS was founded by a group brought together by friendship and passion for hockey and technology.  The objective of IHS is to  create content and tools that inspire coaches and players around the world.

Williams tenders with NAHL's Janesville Jets

18U defenseman helped lead OBJ to a 2021 Mid-Am district championship and berth in the National Tournament.

18U defenseman Ryan Williams has signed a tender with the North American Hockey League's Janesville Jets for the 2022-23 season. 

A well-rounded, smooth skating defenseman with a physical presence, Williams tallied 8 goals and 30 points in 58 games last season and helped lead the AAA Blue Jackets to a Mid-Am district championship and berth in the National Tournament. 

Through his first 30 games in the 2021-22 season, Williams has found the back of the net 6 times and totaled 22 points.

Celebrating its 47th season in 2021-22, the NAHL, the only USA Hockey-sanctioned Tier II Junior league boasting 29 teams in 17 states from across North America. The NAHL is part of the USA Hockey National Junior Development Model, which includes the USHL and the US National Team Development Program. The NAHL works closely with NCAA College Hockey, the NHL, the USHL, and USA Hockey's National Development Program in order best serve as an imperative piece in the development system for collegiate and professional hockey.
